Nine student-athletes from the class of 2017 have signed their National Letter of Intent to play collegiately. In a ceremony held at Millbrook on Wednesday afternoon, Larry Rountree III, Sam Smith, Nic Vinson, Cameron Celetti, Tyler Royal, Lauren Griffiths, Brianna Morris, Gabby Sturla, and Dennis Delgado put ink to paper on their future athletic plans.

Larry Rountree III, a highly decorated running back for the Millbrook Football team has signed his letter of intent to play collegiately at Division-I Missouri. A two-year letterwinner for the Wildcats, Rountree carried the ball 305 times for 3,161 yards, and 43 touchdowns. He finished his high school career fourth all-time in rushing yards, just four behind James Madison’s Marcus Marshall. Larry finished third all-time in touchdowns scored with a total of 45, just ten short of Keith Marshall’s school record. Rountree also tied the Marshall brothers for the most touchdowns scored in a single game with five when he helped guide the Wildcats to a victory at Enloe this season.

"All of my hard work, blood, sweat, and tears paid off today. I cannot wait to play at Mizzou, and experience football in the SEC. It's going to be a challenge that I am excited to pursue."

Nic Vinson, a three-year letterwinner for Millbrook’s Football team will be packing his bags for Division-I Northern Colorado in the fall. Vinson lead the Wildcats in interceptions in each of the last two seasons, and he was the Cap-8 Conference’s leader in interceptions during his junior season. In total, Vinson made 103 career tackles, and hauled in 12 career interceptions.

"Northern Colorado is a great fit in my opinion. Every kid dreams of playing at the Division-I level, and thankfully that was an option that Coach Collins and his staff were able to present. I love their campus, and their facilities are great."

Sam Smith has signed with Division-I Elon University after a breakout senior season that saw him record 44 tackles, 10 for a loss, and four that went for sacks. In his career, Smith tallied over 80 tackles, and eight solo sacks. Against Northern Durham this past season, Smith ended the game’s opening possession with a bang by blocking a punt, and returning it to the house for the only touchdown of his career.

"I've been going and seeing the campus grow since I was a little kid it's like a place where I can see myself excel; it's such a heart warming place... Today was a childhood dream of mine, and I am glad that it was able to come true."

Tyler Royal has found his collegiate fit at Division-II Cheyney University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. The 6’4 300 lb. Royal saw an increased role on the offensive line in 2016, helping block for the Cap-8 Conference’s leading rusher, and Offensive Player of the Year Larry Rountree III.

"It was a surreal moment especially being the first in my family to attend college for sports and I just want to thank the coaches that recruited me at Cheyney, and all the coaches that helped me through my career at Millbrook."

Cameron Celetti will have the opportunity to play collegiately at Division-III Hampden-Sydney College. Celetti averaged three tackles a game throughout the course of his high school career. As a junior, he recovered a fumble against Sanderson, and as a senior he snatched a career-best two interceptions from Duke quarterback commit, Gunnar Holmberg in an upset victory over Heritage.

"It felt surreal to be able to be up there with these guys who have been by my side when I didn't really have anyone, and to sign to a school like Hampden-Sydney is just an amazing feeling. I am going to be a part of a brotherhood with such a great sense of community. It feels like the right place for me."

Brianna Morris, has signed to play collegiately at Division-I UNC Charlotte. Morris is entering her fourth season at the varsity level with 40 points accumulated, and her senior class has already combined for 39 career wins. During her junior season, she helped guide the Wildcats to a Cap-8 Conference Championship with a team-leading 11 goals scored. Morris is a two-time All-Conference selection, and as a junior she picked up All-District honors.

"It's great to finally say that I'm a 49er. The program is extremely competitive, and it is at one of the highest of levels. Everyone pushes each other which I really like. The school has the best atmosphere and it's close to the city."

Lauren Griffiths becomes the third member of her family to come through the Millbrook Women’s Soccer program, and sign to a Division-I institution. Griffiths has inked her letter of intent with Virginia Commonwealth University after tallying six goals, and 17 assists over the course of her high school career. Like Morris, Griffiths earned Cap-8 All-Conference merits as both a sophomore, and junior.

Gabby Sturla is the third four-year letterwinner to sign for the Millbrook Women’s Soccer team in the winter period as she will be attending Division-II Coker College. Sturla has amassed nine goals, and two assists in 21 career varsity games. Last season, Sturla managed to register a hat trick against East Wake, and net a pivotal goal in a 2-1 match at rival Sanderson.

"Signing with Coker was a big step in my life, and I cannot wait to see what my future holds"

Dennis Delgado has signed to play baseball at Division-II Belmont Abbey College. Delgado became a mainstay in Coach James’ lineup as a junior, starting 22 games behind the dish while batting .315 with two doubles, and six runs batted in. Delgado was near-perfect behind the plate by gunning down 44% of would-be base stealers, and committing only one error in the process.

"It's an honor to sign at Belmont Abbey. Coach [Chris] Anderson has presented me with an amazing opportunity in an amazing environment. I am blessed, and excited for this next step in my career."

Going into the spring athletic season, 15 student-athletes have officially signed to play collegiately from the class of 2017. Of those student-athletes, eleven have signed to play at the Division-I level. The list of athletes to sign at Millbrook during either the fall or winter signing periods is located below.
