The state champion Wake Forest High School football team was honored by N.C. Sen. Chad Barefoot on Wednesday.
Sen. Barefoot read a proclamation honoring the team's accomplishment as players and coaches – 94 in all – watched from the gallery.
He specifically noted the performances of senior Darius Hodge, who blocked a punt early in the game and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player; junior Seth Williams, who had a key interception; and junior Devon Lawrence, who scored two touchdowns.
He also praised Coach Reggie Lucas, a Wake Forest High alumnus, for leading the team to the school’s first state football title and the first state football title in Wake County since Garner High School won it all in 1987.
Congrats to the entire team!
