Spring Sports Weekend Roundup (April 7-9)

It was a busy weekend for Wake County spring sports with the Spring Break hiatus beginning on Monday, April 10. Read below to see how the top teams in each sport got on at the weekend. 

 

Baseball

Holly Springs varsity baseball visited Apex on April 7th defeating them 3-1. The Hawks then travelled to Knightdale and continued to extend their winning streak to 10 games. Holly Springs is now tied with Fuquay-Varina for first place in the Southwestern conference. 

Fuquay-Varina returned to winning ways after beating Sanderson 6-2 on Saturday April 8th.

Men's Lacrosse

Middle Creek men's lacrosse continued their unbeaten season with a big 17-4 win over conference rivals Holly Springs on Friday. They are now 12-0 on the season.

Broughton held onto their slim grasp of the Cap 8 conference lead with a 15-10 win over Green Hope on Friday. This win brought them to 11-1 with a half game lead over second place Leesville Road. 

Men's varsity lacrosse will return to it's normal schedule on Tuesday April 18th. Check back throughout the week for information on this week's spring break tournaments.

 

Women's Lacrosse

Panther Creek continued their strong season with a win over Green Hope, defeating them 18-12. This moves Panther Creek to 11-2 on the season but face strong competition in the conference.

Breathing down Panther Creek's necks in second and third are undefeated (9-0) Apex and 10-2 Middle Creek. 

Apex have already defeated their two conference rivals in both matchups earlier this year, with a 23-13 win over Panther Creek and a 15-11 win over Middle Creek. 

Women's Lacrosse will return to it's normal schedule on April 17th.

 

Women's Soccer

Wakefield continued their unbeaten season with a 1-0 win over Sanderson on Wednesday, April 5th. They top the Cap 8 conference with Millbrook (9-1-2) in second place.

Green Hope also continued their season without losing after they defeated Fuquay Varina 2-0 extending their record to 15-0. 

Women's soccer returns Monday, April 17th.

 

Softball

Things are tight at the top of the South Western conference with Panther Creek, Holly Springs, and Apex fighting for first place. Holly Springs currently leads due to their unbeaten conference record. The Golden Eagles have already defeated Apex (13-3) and Panther Creek (11-6) in previous meetings this year.

In the GNRC, Garner sits in first place with an 8-0 conference record and a 14-2-1 record overall. Their last win came on Friday with a 14-3 win over Clayton. 

Heritage is currently dominating the Cap-8 conference and also has an 8-0 conference record. Heritage is coming off their second loss of the year, dropping to D.H. Conley 12-10 in extra innings. The Huskies will look to bounce back to winning ways against Sanderson on April 19th.
