Middle Creek clinched a trip to their first ever 4A NCHSAA State Championship in Men's Lacrosse after winning 14-8 over North Carolina juggernauts Cardinal Gibbons in the East Regional Championship.

It's been an amazing season for Middle Creek, who go into the State Championship game ranked #1 in the state and undefeated with a record of 21-0.

The Mustangs have outscored opponents in the playoffs 60-22. They have yet to concede a double figure scoreline on the season and have yet to score less than 13 goals in a game.

Netting a double figure scoreline against Cardinal Gibbons would be no easy task for Middle Creek. The first half of the game showcased both teams defensive capabilities.

In the 3rd Quarter, Middle Creek and Cardinal Gibbons were tied at 5 goals a piece. Thats when Middle Creek's offense, who averaged 15.4 goals per game on the season, opened up.

After tying the game at 5 early in the third quarter, Middle Creek went on to outscore the Crusaders 9-3.

It was goalkeeper Johnny Kelley who shone in the second half of the game. Kelley made 13 saves on the day, helping the Middle Creek defense 1-up the top ranked defense in the state in terms of goals allowed.

Middle Creek will go on to play Lake Norman in the 4A NCHSAA State Championship on Saturday, May 20th after the women's game. The game will be held at the Wake Med Soccer Complex in Cary, NC. Tickets will be available at the gate.
