This Saturday, Middle Creek won their first 4A NCHSAA Men's Lacrosse State Championship after defeating Lake Norman 17-8 in Cary, NC.
The game started off tight, with Lake Norman up 3-2 after the first quarter. But Middle Creek started to pull ahead in the second half.
With five minutes to go in the second half, Tanner Patrick tied the game at 4. Middle Creek continued to go on a tear until the end of the first half.
No more than 30 seconds after tying the game, Jared Medwar, who assisted Patrick's goal, scored a go ahead goal. Middle Creek scored five unanswered goals in five minutes to lead 8-4 going into halftime.
Lake Norman however was a formidable opponent, scoring the opening goal in the third quarter. Middle Creek provided a quick response, scoring less than a minute after Lake Norman's response.
Up 11-7 going into the fourth quarter, the Mustangs were determined to close the game out. Middle Creek outscored Lake Norman 6-1 in the fourth quarter to put the game to bed.
Middle Creeks domination of the game came primarily from the faceoff spot, wining 25 of 31 faceoffs on the afternoon. Graham Schwartz won 19 of his 25 faceoffs to help the Mustangs control possession of the game. His dominance from the faceoff spot earned him the game MVP award.
Middle Creek had plenty of players dominate on the offensive front as well. Medwar notched five goals and two assists on the day. Owen Caputo scored four goals and provided three assists. Tanner Patrick scored four goals and provided an assist.
The Mustangs continually proved their excellence over the season, defeating every team which stepped up to challenge them.
The Mustangs claimed their first ever State Championship in Men's Lacrosse after finishing the season 22-0.
