Wildcat Week In Review: August 14th-20th

The 2017 Fall Sports season kicked off this past week, and several of Millbrook’s athletic teams found early success in its opening games.

Check below for updates, scores, stats, and standings on each of the fall teams that participated in contests during this past week.

 

Football

Overall Record: 0-1
This Week: 34-7 loss to Wake Forest
Next Week: at Wakefield (7:00 PM)
 

Tasked with facing the defending 4-AA State Champions on the road, Millbrook hung with the Cougars and opened many eyes in the local high school football scene. The Wildcats trailed by only a score at the half following a Tyler Snead 94-yard kick return for a touchdown.

Quarterback, Ford Werness completed 10 of his 22 passes for 51 yards, and led the team in rushing with 21 yards on the ground. Millbrook forced three fumbles in the game, and senior Jayden Pauling scooped up two of them. He also made a pair of tackles for the Wildcat defense.

Millbrook returns to action at Wakefield on Friday at 7:00 PM. Wakefield fell in week one to Leesville Road by a score of 20-13. The Wolverines are looking to replace several keys pieces this year including the loss of quarterback Matt McKay who is now at NC State. Millbrook defeated the Wolverines in a thriller last season by the final score of 30-28.

 

Volleyball

Overall Record: 2-1
This Week: Loss at Heritage, Win at Knightdale, Win vs. Franklin Academy
Next Week: Tournament in North Myrtle Beach, SC

 

Under the direction of new head coach Meredith Blum, Millbrook turned in a solid showing in its first three matches of the season. The Wildcats fell in straight sets to Heritage before tally a pair of 3-0 victories at Knightdale and at home vs. Franklin Academy.

Patty Delmedico, and Lainey Anderson combined for 31 assists in the victory at Knightdale, Taylor Rebne added 13 kills, and against Franklin Academy, sophomore Skyler Rogerson recorded 10. Arianna Rosario has been a force up front for the Wildcats as she has registered a team-high eight blocks so far.

Millbrook will travel to South Carolina this weekend, and face North Myrtle Beach High School on Saturday. They return home on August 29th to face Wakefield High School.

 

Men’s Soccer

Overall Record: 0-2
This Week: Loss at Wake Forest, Loss to Apex Friendship
Next Week: at Mount Tabor, vs. Holly Springs at Cardinal Gibbons, and vs. AC Reynolds at WakeMed Soccer Park

 

Millbrook looks to bounce back this upcoming week after a pair of one-goal losses in its opening games. Matthew Bulmer scored a goal, and connected with Kamara Culbreath on another in a 3-2 loss at Wake Forest. The Wildcats turned in a solid defensive performance in its home opener, but ultimately fell 1-0 to Apex Friendship.

Millbrook returns to action this week with a trip to Mount Tabor in Winston Salem, then a pair of matches in the NCSCA Kick-Off Classic at Cardinal Gibbons, and WakeMed Soccer Park this weekend.

 

Women’s Tennis

Overall Record: 1-0
This Week: Win vs. Heritage
Next Week: at Wakefield, vs. Enloe, at Leesville Road
 

Millbrook opened its season with a 9-0 victory against Heritage. The Wildcats return several key pieces from last year’s team including the Cap-8’s Singles Tournament Champion, Brianna Taranto. Millbrook travels to Wakefield on Monday before opening up Cap-7 play against Enloe on Tuesday. They will conclude the week with a match at Leesville Road.


 

Cross Country

Millbrook will open up its 2017 XC slate on Monday evening with a race at Wakefield.
