Wildcat Week In Review: September 4th-10th

The 2017 Fall Sports season is underway, and several of Millbrook’s athletic teams have found early success.

Check below for updates, scores, stats, and standings on each of the fall teams that participated in contests during this past week.

 

FOOTBALL

Overall Record: 1-3
This Week: 53-13 Loss at Heritage, 34-22 Loss to Middle Creek
Next Week: vs. Apex (7:00 PM)

 

Millbrook Football continued its treacherous non-conference slate with a pair of losses to two more of the area's top-10 ranked teams. The Wildcats fell 53-13 at #2 Heritage, and dropped its home opener in a back and forth affair with Middle Creek by a score of 34-22.

Tyler Snead and Chris Twitty continued their dominance on the offensive side of the ball by scoring all five of Millbrook's touchdowns this past week. Snead also added a two-point conversion run for a score.

Twitty ran for 142 yards in the two games, and found paydirt four times including a career best three touchdowns on Friday against Middle Creek.

Snead hauled in a touchdown pass in Monday's contest at Heritage. Quarterback Connor Jordan tossed for 235 yards in each of the two games, he has now completed 58% of his passes this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jayden Pauling recovered another fumble, Kenan Delbridge got his mitts on an interception, and Tahmirr Anderson put on a hard-hitting display against Middle Creek.

Millbrook returns to action on Friday when it faces Apex at 7:00 PM.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Overall Record: 4-6 (0-2)
This Week: Win vs. Wake Forest, Loss at Broughton
Next Week: Home against Garner
 

Millbrook continued its non-conference portion of the schedule with a 3-1 home victory against Wake Forest. Lainey Anderson dished out 22 assists, and Taylor Rebne connected on 14 kills to propel the Wildcats to the victory.

Coach Blum's group fell in its second match of the week, 3-0 to Broughton. Anderson and Rebne led the team with four kills apeice, with Arianna Rosario contributing three more blocks for a team-high 16 this season.

 

MEN’S SOCCER

Overall Record: 4-5-1
This Week: Loss vs Heritage, Win at Wakefield
Next Week: Home vs. Southeast Raleigh, at Enloe, home vs. Green Hope

 

The Wildcats are starting to heat up as Cap-7 play approaches. 3-2-1 in its last six, Millbrook bounced back from an early week loss at Heritage to defeat Wakefield 4-2. Matthew Bulmer contributed on all four of the Wildcat scores with three goals and an assist. Luke White found the back of the net in the contest for his first of the season.

Bulmer now leads the team in goals, and assists. Millbrook returns to action with three matches this week including two within conference play as they take on Southeast Raleigh and Enloe.

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Overall Record: 1-5 (0-4)
This Week: Loss to Green Hope
Next Week: Home vs. Southeast Raleigh, at Enloe

 

Millbrook dropped a non-conference match with Green Hope, 9-0 last week. The Wildcats have a pair of Cap-7 matches this week as they are in search of its first conference win. Millbrook faces 0-8 Southeast Raleigh before battling Enloe, an opponent in which the Wildcats lost a heartbreaker to, 5-4 earlier in the season.


 

CROSS COUNTRY

Men’s Record: 1-0
Women’s Record: 1-0
This Week: Wins at Southeast Raleigh, and Friday Night Lights Race in Kernersville
Next Week: Cap-7 Invitational, and Adidas XC Challenge

 

Millbrook opened its season with dominate victories over Southeast Raleigh. In the boys portion of the race, the Wildcats tallied a perfect score.

Millbrook then traveled to Kernersville, NC for the Friday Night Lights race at Ivey Redmon Park. Nick Scudder continued to find early success this season with a 5K PR of 16:25 to lead the boys. 1-5, Millbrook averaged a time of 17:02, one second short of its time from the same race last season. 

Crossing the finish line at 20:50, Emilie Buzitsky lead the girls team on Friday night. Hayley Kaplan turned in a time of 21:19, and Brooke Finnessy, Katherine Stiles, Audrey Ditmore, and Emily Petersen all crossed between 21:44 and 21:48. 

 

WOMEN'S GOLF

Next Week: Match at Hedingham on 9/11
 
Addie Ultis has helped anchor the Wildcats through its opening two conference matches. The junior has contributed team-leading scores in fifth place finishes Carolina Country Club, and River Ridge.
 
The Wildcats will continue its schedule on Monday at Hedingham at 3:30 PM.
