The Bears compete in the Hagan Stone Classic also in Greensboro Oct. 1st. Miss Clarke ran 31:00 at Barton College Invitational to open their season. The Bears finish 7th. Clarke & her Shaw 4X100 relay team compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 26-28th in Bradenton, FL. The team posts 49.50 at the prestigious Penn Relays. Her 4X400m relay team posts 4:14.91 & 1:48.05 in the 4X200m. Clarke’s 4X100 relay team runs 48.64 at the CIAA Track Championships good for 5th. Clarke ran 26.34 in the 200m for 11th in the CIAA & she earned 10th in the 100m. Clarke & her  team earned 4th at the Campbell Invitational with a time of 50.16.  Clarke ran 26.34 in the 200m for Shaw University Track at the HPU Vertklasse Meet.

James Johnson 2014 NCCUJay Johnson (’14) runs 41:47.45 in the 8K for NC Central cross-country at Greensboro Invitational. The Eagles head to the Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge in Cary Oct. 1st. Johnson runs 38:08 good for 20th for NC Central Cross Country at the 8th Annual Elon Invitational.

Garner Class of 1962 had their 54th reunion Saturday night at the Garner Optimist Club. We hope our fantastic alums had a great time.

Kristin Yde Kristin Yde (’09) adds qualification for the SFR to her stellar year. Yde and Smack reach the finals for their first time which will be held in Nov 4-6 in Asheville.. Yde double champions over the weekend with SEBRA Heritage Point title in Powell’s Point and the New Bern IPRA/SRA in an #OxyGen-fueled time of 15.423. Yde takes the 2016 Carousel Farms 1D Championship this season. Yde & Smack win the SRA Barrel Race in Cherokee NC with#OxyGen-fueled time of 13.9. Yde claimed the SEBRA in Woodstock VA & qualified for American Barrel Racing Semifinals in Texas with their Top 5 finish in the qualifier. Yde records an #OxyGen-fueled 14.555 time. Yde won the IPRA/SRA in Blacksburg SC with a stellar OxyGen fueled 14.455. Yde won the Chesapeake SRA. Yde & “Bayou” won the Carousel Farms Barrel Race with the season best ‪#‎OxyGen‬ fueled time of the year.

Lauren Ceyrolles 2014 Methodist CollegeLauren Ceyrolles (’14) shoots 80 at the Martin & Wallace Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland for Methodist College. The Monarchs are second with the final round Sunday.. The Monarchs captured their Methodist University Invitational team title. Ceyrolles finishes 7th for the Monarchs in very tough, windy & cold conditions in Fayetteville. Ceyrolles finished 5th at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Montpelier VA. Ceyrolles shoots 78-78 for the Methodist College golf.

Brayden Sims 2014 DavidsonBrayden Sims (’14) has two catches for 9 yards in Davidson 24-20 loss at Valparaiso on ESPN3. The Wildcats host Stetson Oct. 1st on TWC Sports Channel 323. Sims has three catches for 48 yards in Davidson 2016 opener at Georgetown. The Wildcats improve to 2-1 with 38-12 win over Livingstone.

Kristen Powell 2013 UNC WilmingtonKristen Powell (’13) & defending CAA Champion UNC Wilmington volleyball drop their CAA opener vs Northeastern. Powell has 8 kills and 7 blocks for the Seahawks (10-3) in the 4-set loss. They return to conference play Sunday vs Hofstra 12:30PM. Powell had 5 kills, 5 blocks for UNC Wilmington volleyball in 4-set win at NC State.  The Seahawks swept their 3 matches at the North Texas Invitational. The Seahawks win 9 of 10 sets. Powell has 10 kills, 3 digs & 2 blocks in the Seahawks 5-set win over Wofford & 9 kills, 7 digs & 5 blocks in 4-set win over Ohio. Powell had 10 kills for in sweep over App State at Black & Gold Invitational. Powell has 9 kills 2 aces for UNCW in 4-set win over Jacksonville at UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Classic. Powell records 8 digs & block. The Seahawk senior led UNCW to 24-8, 13-3 in CAA season and NCAA Tournament earning All-CAA & All-State team from NC Collegiate Sports Information Association.

Kenneth Perkinson 2013 WinthropKenneth Perkinson (’13)  records six saves in Winthrop soccer Big South opener vs Liberty. The Eagles fall 4-3, host Charlotte Tuesday 7PM. Perkinson has eight saves in goal for Winthrop soccer earns Player of the Game honors in 1-1 draw at Appalachian St.  Winthrop soccer win 1-0 in OT vs Wofford to conclude their Big South/SoCon Challenge. Perkinson shuts out Mercer 2-0, recording 5 saves for the Eagles in the Big South/SoCon Challenge. 

Jeremy Woodard 1997 Broadway actorJeremy Woodard, (’98) and the touring cast of “Wicked” open at Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence RI thru Oct. 8th. Woodard joined the cast as “Fiyero” on August 1st after performing in the 4-time Tony nominated “School of Rock The Musical.” Our Broadway star has credits in the lead of “Rock of Ages” as well as The Last Ship, Hairspray, & Miss Saigon among others stage and TV roles. Woodard was featured by our own HOF writer Tim Stevens (’70) in his lead role.

 

Marco Perez 2014 CampbellMarco Perez (’14) & Campbell soccer shut out Belmont 2-0. The Fightin’ Camels open Big South Conference play at Gardner-Webb Saturday night 7 p.m.. Perez has a shot on goal in Campbell soccer 1-0 OT win at Howard. The Fightin’ Camels (1-1) host William & Mary Saturday, Sept. 10th. The Camels reached their first semifinal since joining Big South last season.

Anna Bennett (’16) has earned the UNC Global Gap Scholarship from the UNC. She will be spending this school year in Southeast Asia teaching Theatre and Dancing Arts at an orphanage. Miss Bennett will defer her freshman year at UNC Chapel Hill to the Fall 2017. Wonderful service Miss Bennett, your Trojan family wishes you safe travels.

The Garner Class of 1976 enjoyed a great 40-year reunion evening at Gregory Vineyard. 70 classmates were able to attend and like most Garner classes, feature many married childhood sweethearts. Terrific organization by Adrian Buie and his committee

Manny Perez 2017 NC State soccerSenior midfielder Emanuel Perez  (’17)  & Capital Area Railhawks Academy 17U drop 4-3 decision to Orlando City SC. The Railhawks (1-1) host Boca United Football Club U-17/18 10AM Sunday. The Railhawks down Carolina Rapids 4-0 to open their season. The Railhawks face Orlando City SC Saturday Sept. 24th. Perez was named Player of the Year in U.S. Soccer Development Academy East Conference Under-15/16s after his superb season with Capital Area RailHawks Academy. Perez has committed to NC State soccer next year.

Joshua Talamantes (’16) finishes 3rd with 29:57.1 for Wake Tech cross-country at the Monarch Classic hosted by Methodist College.  Tyler Jennings (’16) records 38:43.29 for the Eagles.

Warren Messer 2015 ElonWarren Messer (’15) & Elon with the big upset win 27-10 at #8-ranked William & Mary. The win was just the second for Elon over a top-10 program at the FCS level and second straight CAA opening win. The Phoenix host Villanova Oct. 1st. Messer has 8 tackles & QB hurry in Elon 26-3 win over Fayetteville State with Tim Thorb (’13) who has 6 tackles & Moongo Bolobiongo (’13) 3 stops & QB hurry. The Phoenix travel to Wm&Mary next Saturday. The Broncos face Virginia Union. Messer had four tackles for Elon in loss at Charlotte. The Phoenix host Fayetteville State with Trojan alums Tim Thorb (’13) Moongo Bolobiongo (’13) Sept. 17th 6PM kickoff on Hall of Fame Weekend for The Phoenix. Messer records 4 tackles for Elon 8 tackles & sack in the Elon Phoenix opening loss to Gardner Webb.

Haleigh Joyner (’18) Kira Jackson (’17) & NC Challengers Elite win 4 and conclude with a time-limit tie at the Carolina’s Clash in Rock Hill, SC. Joyner 5-11 with 2RBI for the tourney, Jackson 4-7 with 2RBI.

Tucker Dupree 2007 Olympic swimmerTucker Dupree (’07)  earned bronze in the 100m backstroke at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Dupree records 24.49 in his 50m finals and reached the finals in the 100m butterfly as well. Dupree posts 1:01.04 for his 4th Paralympic medal after earning a silver and two bronze in London 2012. He recorded 24.03 for a New American record in the 50m freestyle & won his class with 1:02.05 in the 100m backstroke at the 2016 US Paralympic Trials in Charlotte. Dupree earns his 3rd US team berth. Dupree claimed  golds in the 100m backstroke & 50m freestyleat the 2016 Caixa Loterias Swimming Open Championship in Rio de Janeiro. Dupree earned silver earlier in 100m butterfly the international competition, the first ever Paralympic test for Team USA at the Olympic venue. Dupree was featured in Swimming World Magazine. Dupree, holder of two world records, nine Pan-American records and 43 American records, is an elite ambassador for Lululemon Athletica, and Dolfin Pro swimwear.

Brodie West 2015 Guilford CollegeBrodie West (’16)  & Guilford College improve to 3-0 with 30-28 win at Averett. The Quakers are off next week, host Catholic for Homecoming Oct. 1st 1PM kickoff. Guilford College blast Greensboro 69-0 in the Gate City Soup Bowl. West rushes twice for 12 yards in his first collegiate game.

Courtney Weathersbee 2014 Lees-McRaeCourtney Weathersbee (’14) has 4 service aces & 19 assists for Lees-McRae volleyball in 3-0 win vs Converse. Weathersbee adds 4 digs for the Bobcats who host Limestone Saturday 2PM. Weathersbee match high 41 assists in  Lees-McRae volleyball 5-set loss to Kutztown State in their finale of the Spick Out Hunger Classic at WSSU. Weathersbee recorded 29 assists & 11 digs in the Bobcatsl win over Chowan in their season-opening win at the WSSU . Weathersbee adds 6 kills for the Bobcats.

Banks CFL East ChampsBrandon Banks (’06) catches 16 yard TD in Hamilton 20-18 loss at Saskatchewan. Banks adds 82 return yards to his season total of 7 TDs & his combine yardage total for 2016 to 1,865, first in the CFL.. Banks had 95 return yards & 13 receiving in Hamilton 20-17 win over Montreal. Banks has a TD catch & 102 return yards for Hamilton who rallies to defeat Toronto 49-36 in the 2016 Labour Day Classic. Banks catches 3-yard strike as the Tiger-Cats erase 27-7 Argos lead for the CFL win.. Our alum launched his new websitewww.BrandonBanks16.com Friday, which will feature “Speedy B” gear and news. Banks’ 58 yard TD catch for Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 53-7 destruction of Saskatchewan. Banks adds 32 return yards. Banks 126 return TD for Hamilton in their 45-38 loss at BC earns CFL Play of the Week. His 10th career kick return TD knots the game with 3:11 left but the Lions score late for the CFL win. Banks rolled up 137 return yards and 71 receiving in Hamilton epic 37-31 comeback win at Edmonton. He  set up two critical scores as the Tiger-Cats rally from 31-6 deficit, their largest comeback in franchise history. He earned his second consecutive CFL All-Star selection and named the 2015 CFL Special Teams Player of the Year for Hamilton for tying the CFL record with 4 kick return TDs.

Ramirez records his 5th goal for #4-ranked Iowa Western soccer in 5-0 win over North Iowa Area CC.  Ramierz earns ICCAC Player of the Week. Pembroke volleyball drop a narrow 5-set loss to Kentucky St at the Eckerd College Invitational in St. Petersburg FL. Jefferies has 9 digs and an ace. Jefferies has 2 digs and 2 returns in their loss to New Haven in the tournament finale.

Brandon Sanders 1998 FSU CoachAsst Coach Brandon Sanders (’98)  & #4 ranked Florida State blast Charleston Southern 52-0 to start the year 2-0. The Noles travel to ACC foe Louisville Sept. 17th for noon kickoff on ABC. The Noles rallied for 45-34 win over #11 Ole Miss in Orlando. The Seminoles trailed 28-6 before mounting the comeback to open their season 1-0 after graduating a senior class in 2015 that won a school record 49 games. Sanders is in his 4th season with FSU as Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Sean Davis (’16)  & NC A&T improve to 2-0 with 39-36 4OT win at Kent State. The Aggies survive an hour lightening delay for the non-conference win.. NC A&T open their year with the win over Saint Augustine with Desmond Quinerly (’16) &Tyree Chance (’12). Davis records a tackle for the Aggies.

Congratulations to Miami Dolphin Chris Culliver (’07) & his Foundation that donated 150 book bags filled with school supplies to disadvantaged youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Germantown. Outstanding community service by our Trojan.

The Broncos head to Elon, with Warren Messer (’15) next Saturday, Sept. 17th 6PM kickoff. Boliobiongo records six tackles & Thorb, has one In Fayetteville St 14-13 loss to Chowan in their 2016 season opener.

Congratulations Macon Jones (’96) named to the Mount Olive 2016 Hall of Fame. Jones was the CVAC Player of the Year in 2000 & MOU Most Outstanding Student Athlete after leading the Trojans to NCAA appearances in 1999 & 2000 as .396 hitting shortstop, 6th highest in MOU history. Jones joins fellow Garner baseball great Steve Hudson (’87) in the MOC Hall of Fame (inducted in 2010 & 2015 Trojan Hall of Fame inductee.

Jefferies 2-for-3 passing for the Rattlers who open their home schedule Sept. 24th vs SC State on Hall of Fame weekend. Florida A&M downed in their opener at #26 Miami.

Stephen Moore 2016 Bridgewater CollegeStephen Moore (’16) & Bridgewater College edged 26-23 at The Apprentice School. The Eagles off until Oct. 1st when they host Hampton Sydney for Family Weekend, 2PM kickoff. Bridgewater dropped their home opener to #22 Thomas More. The Eagles downed 38-22 Gettysburg in his collegiate opener. The Eagles offensive line plows the way for 204 rushing yards to open their year.

Courtney Barbour 2014 LouisburgCourtney Barbour (’14) has joined William Peace University softball. Miss Barbour played two seasons with Louisburg for the 2015 Region X Tournament Champions.

Nyheim Hines 2015 NC StateNyheim Hines (’15) records 95 return yards, 33 receiving & 22 rushing in 33-30 loss at ECU, which include Cheer squad membersSarah Schindler (’15) Gavin Barbour (’16) color guard team members Sarah Gibson (’12).. The Pack hosts Old Dominion Sept. 17th for Hall of Fame Weekend. Hines had 42 yards receiving for NC State in their 48-14 season opener over William & Mary. Hines has 26 return yards, 8 rushing for the 1-0 Pack who travel to ECU Sept. 10th noon kickoff. Hines earned All-American with the ACC Champion NC State 4X100 relay team at the 2016 NCAA Track Championship. The Pack posts 39.48 in the finals after a PR 39.11 in their heat, just .04 off the school record..The Wolfpack ran 39.42 to take the ACC title. Hines posts 10.42 in the 100m finals for State good for 5th and All-ACC Honors. Hines earned Freshman All-American for Wolfpack football this season. His 791 kick return yards led all freshmen & ranked 9th in the NCAA. Hines was named Honorable Mention All-ACC in 2015 as well.

Greg Milhouse 2012 CampbellGreg Milhouse (’12) & NY Giants win 21-20 at NY Jets. The GMen rally for the winning score with 2:28 left for the preseason win.. Milhouse records two tackles & QB hurry for NY Giants in their preseason loss at Buffalo.  Milhouse had a sack and three tackles in the Giants preseason opener vs  the Dolphins. The Two-time All-Pioneer League standout with Campbell impressed the scouts with a stellar pro day and outstanding performance in the NFLPA Bowl.  Milhouse earned All-Pioneer League honors for the 2nd straight year.

Colin Pippin (’16) has signed with Saint Augustine baseball. The versatile infielder hit .347 for the Trojans with 16RBI last season including a nine-game hit streak to lead Coach Goffena’s team to the NCHSAA 4A Playoffs. Pippin recorded 12K’s in 16 innings on the mound and spent his summer in the Carolina-Virginia League with the Carolina Pirates. Congrats Mr. Pippin!

Steven Brown (’12) is a sworn officer in the Wake County Department of Detention. Officer Brown is Methodist College graduate including two seasons on the Monarchs football squad. Congratulations Officer Brown and thank you for your service.

Gus Ulrich (’80) cards a 73-75 at the  2016 US Senior Golf Championship at Scioto Country Club, Columbus, Ohio. Ulrich misses the cut by a single stroke competing in his 4th national championship. Play continues Friday. He won the USGA Senior Sectional title at Daniel Island Club (Ralston Creek) – Charleston, SC with a 69. Ulrich is the Director of Golf Operations at Pinewild GC in Pinehurst & Head Coach at 2014 NJCAA National Champion Sandhills Junior College.

Mayor Ronnie Williams (’66) is named the 2016 James R. Stevens Service Award recipient. The 5-term leader of our hometown honored for his outstanding contributions to our hometown, spanning decades He was selected by a panel of judges that included Town officials, a Garner Chamber of Commerce representative, a Stevens family member and community leaders. The Mayor will be formally recognized at a reception Aug. 16th.

Josey hits an impressive 12-for-22 with 8RBI for the Challengers. Josey earned GNRC Softball Player of the Year. Josey hit .468 to lead Coach Moe Barbour (’78) Lady Trojans (20-4) to the conference crown while blasting 9 homers & 30 RBI. She will continue her softball career at Appalachian State next year.

Gerard Chamra (’18) & TPA 16s fall in the Championship at the ECU 16U Dynamic Tournament. They finish the tournament 4-1. TPA finished the Perfect Game Tournament with five straight wins. Chamra has an RBI and walk, with two stellar defensive plays starting at 1st in their 5-0 final game win. Chamra was 4-8 with 4RBI in their tourney. TPA 16s reached the finals of the Impact Baseball East Coast Championship with 5-2 defeat of Youse Orioles. TPA edged 2-0 in the final game after four wins in the tournament in Greenville.  Chamra went 3-3 with 2 RBI for TPA 16s in their 9-2 win over the MidAtlantic Dirtbags & 2-3 starting at 1B for TPA 16s in their 6-2 tourney opening win at Duke University.

Jeremy Hall (’07) wins his managerial debut for Old Orchard Beach of the Empire Professional League. Hall pressed into duty after the Surge manager is “asked” to exit the game early.. Hall went 6 innings with 5K’s in his start for Old Orchard Beach vs Sullivan. The Surge drop a 6-4 decision to the Explorers in Empire Professional League play. Play resumes after their All-Star break on Monday vs Watertown. Hall got the win in Old Orchard Beach 10-9 win over Sullivan in Empire League play. Hall records 6 complete innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 runs with 3Ks for the Surge. Hall pitched 6 innings with 5K’s in his second start for Old Orchard Beach in their Empire League loss to New Hampshire. Hall goes 3IP, two runs allowed, 3Ks in 8-5 loss to Sullivan.

Brighton Hudson 2014 Mount OliveBrighton Hudson (’14) selected NCBWA All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention. Hudson pitched a complete game with three strikeouts in his victory over the No. 1 seed Columbus State for Conference Carolinas Champion Mount Olive. & Conference Carolinas Champion Mount Olive fall to Tusculum 3-2 at the NCAA DII SE Regional. Their season ends 33-21. The Trojans captured the school’s 13th conference crown and 7th straight NCAA Tournament appearance this season. The Trojans captured the 2016 Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship. Hudson pitched a scoreless relief inning for Mount Olive in their Conference Carolinas Tournament title game 10-5 win over Pfieffer. Hudson was named to Conference Carolinas All-Conference team. Hudson earns second team honors with his 2.39 ERA in 16 games with 34K’s & 6-2 record.

Kelsey Bryan 2014 UNCWKelsey Bryan (’14) 3 hits, 2RBI for UNC Wilmington at Towson. Bryan finishes the season hitting team-leading .322 & .960 fielding percentage playing 2B, SS, and OF. 9 stolen bases in her sophomore season.. Bryan collects UNC Wilmington only two hits in their loss to Presbyterian at their Hampton Inn & Suites Seahawk Softball Invitational. Bryan records three putouts in the Seahawsk (12-8) loss to UNCG. Tourney concludes with rematch vs Presbyterian Sunday at noon. Bryan went 2-2 w/2 runs scored in UNC Wilmington 10-0 shutout of NC Central at the Hampton Inn University Area Seahawk Softball Classic.

Paolo Ceyrolles (’12) earns Top 5 finalist for Wake Tech golf at the NJCAA District 4 Men’s Golf Championship at the Terri Pines CC in Cullman AL. Ceyrolles shot 74 for Wake Tech golf in the opening round. Wake Tech golf finish 6th at the Barton College Invitational. Ceyrolles records 77-77 rounds as the Eagles shoot an all-time low final round of 302.

SWB clinched their MIAA Tournament berth with sweep at Lincoln-Missouri.. The Bearcats win 11-3 & 10-2 for the school’s first tourney berth since 2002.

Kori Smith 2016 NCAA trophyKori Smith (’14) & #8-ranked NC A&T University bowling finish 4th in the NCAA Collegiate Championship at Brunswick Zone Carolier in North Brunswick, NJ. During their tournament run, the Aggies defeated #1 ranked Nebraska and #6 McKendree. After a consolation round win over Sam Houston State, their tourney ended with a loss to unbeaten Stephen F. Austin, the eventual National Champs. The defending National Champions eliminated at the 2016 USBC Intercollegiate Team National Tournament in Kansas winning both opening day matches before falling to Maryland-Eastern Short and Witchita State in the double-elimination tourney. The Aggies finish with a school record 86 wins this season. Smith rolled 208 average for 2nd at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic to earn All-Tournament honors for #8-ranked NC A&T University bowling.  The Aggies won the Brunswick Invitational in Greensboro with 10-0 record, defeating Hampton in Sunday’s championship bracket. Smith averaged 202 for victorious A&T winning The Stormin Ladyjack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin. The Aggies defeated #2 Nebraska, #4 Sam Houston State, #8 SFA & #9 team Fairleigh Dickinson in the elite tourney.

Emily Lait (’11) & her NCSU linguistic research team presented their study at the Spanish Linguistics in North Carolina/the South East Conference in Charleston, SC. The research is unique, as the first time undergraduates have participated in and conducted linguistic research of use of Spanish in North Carolina.

D’Arco adds 2-RBI double in the nightcap for her 5RBI day. Marbrey pitches a complete game shutout at Lees-McRae for the Angels 6th consecutive win in DH sweep over the Bobcats. Marbrey complete game 4-hitter in Meredith 7-2 win over Millsaps in Clermont FL. and 1-3, RBI at the plate. Marbrey pitched 4 innings with just one hit relief for the Avenging Angels in game one and gets the win in the nightcap. D’Arco hit a 3-run homer for Meredith in the DH split with Methodist.

Congratulations U.S. Army Pvt. Jalen L. Moye (’15) on his graduation from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Moye is the son of Karen L. Hardy, and brother of Juwan L. Moye (’12) and Nikki Hardy. Moye received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat. Their magical NCAA ride closesChandler scored 11 for the Patriots (24-8) in their Sweet 16 win over Augusta. FMU upset #3-seed Columbus State 67-58 to advance in the NCAA DII Tournament. Chandler scores 7 with 2 rebounds, 2 steals, & 2 blocks for the Patriots who take down #2 & #3 seeds on consecutive days. Chandler’s block with 2 seconds left preserves Francis Marion 62-61 upset of #2 seed Lander in NCAA Division II National Tournament. Chandler has 9 pts, 2 rebounds for the Patriots (22-8) who capture their first NCAA Tournament victory since 2010. Chandler led all scorers with 18 in Francis Marion 73-45 Homecoming Game win over Flagler.

Tyler Maher 2011 Stevens InstituteTyler Maher (’11)  earns All-American at the NCAA DIII National Championships. Maher took 4 wins to earn his prestigious honor for the #12 ranked Stevens Ducks. Maher earned his berth in the Nationals with four wins in the NCAA Wrestling DIII East Regionals. Maher wins twice in the consolation bracket to finish the Regional 4-1 and a berth in the March 11-12th tournament in Cedar Rapids IA. Maher claims pin in 4:04 in his first match and 13-3 major decision in his second, before dropping his semifinal matchup with the #2-ranked heavyweight. Two wins in the consolation bracket sends him to the national tournament. Maher took the Centennial Conference Championshipat 285lbs for #12 Stevens Institute of Technology. Maher goes 3-0 in the tournament to claim his title for the Ducks who repeat as team champions with a record 121 points.

Becca Booth Norman 2008 St. BaldricksThe amazing Becca Booth Norman (’08) raised over $3,600 for the St. Baldrick Foundation and shaved her head in soladarity with the children who face pediatric cancer. The results were an exceptionally beautiful donation to Locks of Love. Fantastic community service!

Dominique Reed 2012 Mount OliveDominique Reed (‘12) scores 16 with 6 boards in Mount Olive Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals 77-69 loss to King (TN). Reed has two assists, a steal and a block for the Trojans who season ends 17-13. Reed’s clutch free throws sends Mount Olive to OT where they take 87-78 win over Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas Tournament opener. Reed scores 11 with 5 rebounds and two huge blocks for the Trojans.  Reed scores 19 points with 9 rebounds in Mount Olive 93-78 win at S.Wesleyan. Reed recorded a dominating 18 point, 11 rebound performance in Mount Olive 102-76 win over Belmont Abbey.

Larry Richardson 2012 CIAA Tournament 2015Larry Richardson (’12) records his 1,000th career point for Shaw in their 88-78 Livingstone in their “Coaches vs Cancer” Game. Richardson scores 15 with 3 assists & a steal for the Bears. He led all scorers with 25 in Shaw 74-68 CIAA loss at Fayetteville St. Richardson poured in 32 for Shaw in their 88-61 win over Lincoln (PA) in CIAA action.

 

Congratulations to Brandon Jones (’90) promoted to Division 8 Engineer for the NC Department of Transportation. Jones Brandon is a graduate of N.C. State University with a BS degree in Civil Engineering.  He has over 18 years of experience with the Department of Transportation and has worked in several different capacities in Divisions 4 and 5 including Assistant Resident Engineer, Assistant District Engineer, District Engineer, Division Operations Engineer, Division Maintenance Engineer, and Deputy Division Engineer.

The performance is a follow-up to his acclaimed “War At Your Door,” a historical musical about Garner and its people during World War II. Tim Stevens 1970Tim Stevens (’70) begins his retirement after 48 years of service to high school athletics. A member of the NCHSAA and National High School Hall of Fames as well as our own Trojan Hall of Fame inductee (2012 class), Tim is the original author of the NCHSAA Record Book and served as an advocate and authority on scholastic sports for nearly five decades. He is the 2015 recipient of the Town of Garner’s “James R. Stevens Award” (named for his father) for outstanding community service to our hometown. We wish our very own HOF’er and his beautiful family a very long and prosperous retirement

CVCC 9-0 shutout over North Iowa Area JC. Strickland triple & RBI and 6 putouts in CF. Lee has one hit, 5 putouts and 4 assists for the Southeast District champs. Strickland hustles home on wild pitch in the 10th for Catawba Valley CC 9-8 win over Lincoln Land to advance in the Strickland 1-4, RBI & 2 runs scored, adds a hit. Strickland had two doubles and RBI in their World Series opening loss to Western Oklahoma Lee two-run homer propelled CVCC to the Region X District Title. Lee earned All-Region X honors hitting 330 with 2 HR, 11 doubles & 10 SB, all top 10 to earn second team selection. Strickland earned All-Region X Defensive honors based on his .989 fielding percentage with just one error all season. The Red Hawks clinched their 4th consecutive regular season Carolina Virginia Conference title. Lee was the featured Red Hawk Student-Athlete of the Week for his .347 hitting while maintaining 3.6 GPA.

Jefferies is the Trojans all-time winningest QB, 3-year 40-5 record led the Trojans to a 4A runner-up season in 2011 & Eastern final last season.

Cameron ReddCameron Redd 2012 Lees-McRae (’12) earns an overall 3.90 GPA after he finished the Spring 2015 Semester with a 4.0 GPA taking 18 Credit Hours. Exceptionally well done Mr. Redd. #5 seed Lees-McRae nipped 76-75 by #4 seed Pfieffer at the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Redd has 5 rebounds, 4 points for the Bobcats whose season ends at 15-13.

A defensive stalwart with NC Central with a career .917 fielding percentage and stellar speed, Jefferies was All-State performer for the Lady Trojans, earning GNRC Player of the Year, hitting .378. She was three time All-Conference/All-Academic and led NC 4A in stolen bases her senior season.

Banks CFL East ChampsBrandon Banks (’06) with 67-yard punt return TD in Hamilton 24-23 loss season opening loss to Calgary. Banks has 128 return yards & 16 yards receiving for the Tiger-Cats. Tiger-Cats fall on field goal as time expired. Banks earned 2014 CFL All-Star honors with Hamilton Tiger-Cats finishing with 294 combined yards, including CFL playoff record 225 return yards. Banks claimed three “CFL Player of the Week” award in 2014 and led the CFL in combined yards with 1,945.

 

Gus Ulrich 1980 Gus Ulrich (’80) finish his US Senior Open +10 at the Del Paso CC in Sacramento CA. The Head Coach of the DIII National Champion runner-up Sandhills CC Golf team is the Head Pro at Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst. fUlrich’s Sandhills Golf team finish 2nd at the NJCAA Division III Golf National Championship in Lake Chautauqua, NY. The defending national champs fall by two strokes to Cincinnati State.  Ulrich qualified with his 69 at Sectional Qualifying at High Point CC. The Head Coach is Director of Instruction at Pinewild CC of Pinehurst.

Media DayDavid West (’98) has decided not to exercise the $12.6 million option of his contract for the 2015-16 season, league sources informed The Indianapolis Star on Wednesday. West, who turns 35 in August, will become a free agent this summer for the first time since 2011. The Pacers missed claiming the final Eastern Conference playoff spot despite winning 7 of their last 10. West averaged 11.7ppg & 6.8 rebounds for the season..

Tim Stevens 1970Tim Stevens (’70) begins his retirement after 48 years of service to high school athletics. A member of the NCHSAA and National High School Hall of Fames as well as our own Trojan Hall of Fame inductee (2012 class), Tim is the original author of the NCHSAA Record Book and served as an advocate and authority on scholastic sports for nearly five decades. He is the 2015 recipient of the Town of Garner’s “James R. Stevens Award” (named for his father) for outstanding community service to our hometown. We wish our very own HOF’er and his beautiful family a very long and prosperous retirement

The Dolphins swim at Glenridge June 23rd Buitrago led the 2-time GNRC Champion Trojan Swim team claiming 4 individual & relay titles in 2014. The Dolphin alum is currently attending NC State Natalie is a rising Sophomore at NC State, majoring in Polymer & Color Chemistry with a medical sciences concentration and is a current member of the NC State Club Swim Team. A 4-year letterman with the Trojans & Co-Captain in 2014, Miss Buitrago has been a member of the Garner Dolphins since 2011 and has also served as Assistant Coach for two of those summers.

Tucker Dupree 2007 Olympic swimmerTucker Dupree (’07) broke the American record with a 35.20 in the 50 meter breaststroke at the Jimi Flowers Classic held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Dupree & Team USA competed to raise scholarship funds for Flowers’ two children, Sam and Lauren, as well as giving an outlet for new athletes to swim alongside Paralympic medalists.. Dupree has joined The Hartford as an ambassador athlete. The inspirational 3-time medalist at the 2012 London Games will be competing for USA Swimming in Rio in 2016. Dupree has spoken to many student groups as a motivational speaker.. Dupree claimed Bronze in the 100m backstroke at the 2015 IDM Berlin meet in Germany. Dupree competes in two additional races in the international event. Dupree is a member of the US Swim team for the 2015 IPC World Championships who will compete July 13-19, in Glasgow, Scotland. Dupree, earned gold in the 50m freestyle at the 2015 Can-Am Championships in Toronto. Dupree currently holds 43 American Records, 9 Pan-American Records and 2 World Records..Dupree claimed a silver and two bronze at the London Games, currently holds the 50m & 100m butterfly world records,

Schwonke posts Winn Well-powered 17.3571 run for an excellent finish. Schwonke took 1st at the Gordonsville SEBRA Rodeo, with a run of 16.16. Schwonke claimed 2nd at the SEBRA Rodeo in Chatham VA. . Schwonke claimed 5th at the National SEBRA Rodeo Finals in Murfreesboro TN. The 2012 NAPRA EZ Run Champion and COBRA founder finished 2nd at the World’s Toughest Rodeo at PNC Arena.

Terrell Sanders, (’09) & #2-ranked Okaloosa Strykers fall to #1 Prichard in the APDFL National Conference Championship. The Strykers season ends 11-2. The Strykers advanced in the playoffs 24-18 over Capital City Cobras. Strykers won 30-8 over Greater Pensacola. Sanders has two TD’s in Okaloosa Strykers 36-14 win over the East Coast Scorpions. Sanders had 3 TD’s in Okaloosa 46-20 destruction of #12 Greater New Orleans Jaguars.  Strykers win 34-0 over the Scorpions in APDFL action. Sanders scores a TD in the Okaloosa Strykers 30-0 win vs Pensacola.

Lee & his Catawba Valley CC Red Hawks finished third at the NJCAA DII Baseball Championship after 39-19 season. He earned All-Region X honors hitting 330 with 2 HR, 11 doubles & 10 SB, all top 10 to earn second team selection & was featured Red Hawk Student-Athlete of the Week for his .347 hitting while maintaining 3.6 GPA. Congrats Mr. Lee!

Josey went 3-4 with two RBI in 5-2 loss to the Georgia Outlaws & 3-4 with 2RBI vs the Diamond Dusters at the tourney. Josey RBI double, scores twice in NC Challengers (Renzi 18U) 9-8 win over Team North Florida Enter/Fagan 14U at the Diamond Classic Summer Showcase. The Red Hawks finish their successful season 39-19. Their 11-2 win over #2-ranked Frederick advanced them. Lee 1-3, run scored, Strickland 1-2, RBI for the Red Hawks.. CVCC 9-0 shutout over North Iowa Area JC. Strickland triple & RBI and 6 putouts in CF. Lee has one hit, 5 putouts and 4 assists for the Southeast District champs.  Strickland hustles home on wild pitch in the 10th for Catawba Valley CC 9-8 win over Lincoln Land to advance in the Strickland 1-4, RBI & 2 runs scored, adds a hit. Strickland had two doubles and RBI in their World Series opening loss to Western Oklahoma  Lee two-run homer propelled CVCC to the Region X District Title. Lee earned All-Region X honors hitting 330 with 2 HR, 11 doubles & 10 SB, all top 10 to earn second team selection. Strickland earned All-Region X Defensive honors based on his .989 fielding percentage with just one error all season.  The Red Hawks clinched their 4th consecutive regular season Carolina Virginia Conference title. Lee was the featured Red Hawk Student-Athlete of the Week for his .347 hitting while maintaining 3.6 GPA.

Mays had 14 points to lead Brindisi 74-71 game three playoff win. Mays adds 4 boards and two blocked shots.. Brindisi nipped 78-75 in the series opener. Mays with 10pts & 13 rebounds, his 10th double-double in eleven games.

Bailey concludes her stellar collegiate career with 19:03.52 in the 5000m for the Pirates, which includeMarkus Mosley (’14). Congratulations and well done Miss Bailey!. Bailey & her East 4×1500-meter relay team took 3rd at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 19:10.71, just 3 seconds off the school record. Mosley ran 22.94 in the 200m & 15.28 in the 110m for ECU  at the High Point Univ. Vertklasse Meet & 23.27 in the 200M for at the 49er Classic. Georgia.  The Trojans downed Wingate University Thursday at in their tournament opener and claimed a win over N. Georgia in the Regional.

BCC downs Lenior CC with Carrington Austin 2013 LeniorCarrington Austin (’13)  in the Region X Tournament. Stephens 1-3, 2RBI, 3 stolen bases and two runs scored for the Dolphins. Lenoir season ends in the elimination game. Brunswick fell to top seed Catawba Valley in their tournament opener to face the elimination game.  Austin starts the elimination game for #6 seed Lenior CC, 7-6 win over #7 Surry CC at the Region X Tournament. Austin pitches two innings of 3-hit ball for the Lancers who face Brunswick CC with Sunday 4PM. Austin allows just one ER in start 7-4 win over Southeastern CC-Whiteville. The Lancers sweep the DH with 4-1 win the opener. Austin pitched a shutout in LCC 11-0 win over New River.

Cameron ReddCameron Redd 2012 Lees-McRae (’12) earns an overall 3.90 GPA after he finished the Spring 2015 Semester with a 4.0 GPA taking 18 Credit Hours. Exceptionally well done Mr. Redd. #5 seed Lees-McRae nipped 76-75 by  #4 seed Pfieffer at the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Redd has 5 rebounds, 4 points for the Bobcats whose season ends at 15-13.

Congratulations Tommy Myatt (’76) inducted in the NC Youth Rugby Union Hall of Fame for his contributions and coaching. Myatt received his honor at the 2015 State Championship match won by his son’s Raleigh Rattlersnakes U19 for the second straight year.

Barbour had 2RBI in the Canes DH split with Pitt CC & was 3-6, 3 runs scored in the series at Surry CC.

Lauren Ceyrolles (’14) & #26 Methodist University place 2nd at the Ithaca College Invitational. Miss Ceyrolles cards final round 89 to finish 16th individually. Ceyrolles closes with 85 good for 21st for the Monarchs in their annual Methodist College Invitational.

Head Coach Gus Ulrich (’80) & his Sandhills CC golf team captured the 2015 Region X Championship. Sandhills earned the right to advance to the nationals with a team score of 620 in the tourney held in New Bern, The Flyers are the defending 2014 DIII National Champions.

Kori Smith 2014 NC A&T(’14) & NC A&T University bowling claim the 2015 National Championship!! The #6 Aggies defeat #9-seed Robert Morris 3 games to 1 to claim the title. The Aggies upset #3 McKendree and swept #7 St. Francis to advance to the title match.

Kelsey Bryan (’14) & UNC Wilmington win 3-0 at NC A&T. The Seahawks travel to Charleston Saturday, DH starts at 2PM. Bryan’s 7th inning single scores the game-winner for the Seahawks in their 8-7 win over Youngstown St. Bryan went 1-2 with 2 runs scored in UNC Wilmington 9-5 win over Marist & 2 BB’s and RBI for UNCW in their 4-1 win over Western Carolina & extended her team lead in walks and stolen bases.  Her 2-RBI single led the Seahawks 5-4 win over Georgetown in their season opener.

Jay Johnson (’14) posts 56.63 in the 400m hurdles for NC Central track at the Elon Invitational. His 4X400 relay team he anchors ran 3:26.23. His 4×400 relay team run 3:31.14 for N.C. Central at the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational. The Eagles run in the MEAC Indoor Championships Thu. Feb. 12th in Landover MD. Johnson posts 52.72 in the 400m for NC Central track at the UNCG Spartan Team Challenge. Johnson ran 37.20 in the 300m for NC Central track at the Virginia Tech Invitational. His 4X400 relay team runs a 3:26.29

Meredith Lindsay (’09) received First Year Teacher of the Year nomination for Johnston County Schools from her fellow staff at Clayton Middle School. Congrats Miss Lindsay!

Alyssa D’ArcoAlyssa D'Arco 2013, Meredith claims USA South Conference Sportsmanship Award for Meredith Avenging Angels. The sophomore outfielder D’Arco is a team leader for Meredith softball which include  Lauren Marbrey 2014 Meredith (’14) on the field and in the dugout. D’Arco tallied 13 hits, with 5RBI, a homer and scoring five runs with a pair of doubles. Marbrey hit. 333 with .478 slugging  with homer and 3RBI in 16 games of her freshman season.

Junior baseball star Jack Elliott named NCHSAA Performance of the Week. Elliott’s 7-8 hitting to lead the Trojans to two GNRC wins, with triple and 3RBI’s. The Trojans return to action post-Spring Break at Harnett Central Mar. 31st

(‘12)  & #9-ranked Mount Olive fall to #7 Tarleton State at the NCAA DII Elite 8. Reed scores 5 with 2 blocks for the Southeast Regional Champs who had a school record 31 wins this season.. Reed led the Trojans with 23 points to the NCAA DII SE Regional title 82-75 over Montevallo for their first Regional title in 10 years. They posted a school record 17 game win streak which ended in Conference Carolinas Tournament finals loss.

Mayor Ronnie Williams (’66) received a first-place award in the talk/interview show category from N.C. City and County Communicators for his “”Great People in Garner” series. Back in the fall, the show got a first-place award from the N.C. Association of Government Information Officers. Kameron Smith 2008 Iowa BarnstormersKameron Smith (’08) & Iowa Barnstormers claim their home opener 75-64 over Green Bay Blizzard in Indoor Professional Football League play. Iowa nipped at Green Bay Blizzard 47-46. Iowa wins 38-26 at Bemidji Axemen in Indoor Football League action. Smith is Winston-Salem State all-time leading passer during his 31-4 career at QB, leading the Rams to the 2012 Division II National Championship game. He passed for 7,540 yards and 96 touchdowns & completed 60 percent of his passes earning CIAA offensive player of the year in 2012. He served Assistant Coach at Hampton University this past season.

Chris Culliver 2007 Washington Redskins (’07) has signed a free agent contract to join the Washington Redskins. Culliver, a 3rd round pick by San Francisco in 2011, has compiled 121 tackles, seven interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries in 46 NFL games and the only Trojan to appear in a Super Bowl (XLVII for the East Champs).  The 49ers secondary claimed the NFL best 23 interceptions in 2014, including four by our alum.

Justin ClarkJustin Clark (’13)  & Point Mallard fall 2-1 to Nashville in the deciding NA3HL playoff series. The defenseman had 7 goals and 11 assist for the Ducks who season concludes.. Clark assists on the winning goal in Point Mallard 4-3OT win at Dallas. Clark tallies a goal in the second period. The goal was his 7th of the season for the defenseman.

Gavin Wilson 2012 UNC CharlotteGavin Wilson (’12) & Charlotte down Marshall 86-73 to conclude their regular season. The 49ers open Conference USA Tournament play as the 11th seed and will face sixth-seed Middle Tennessee Wednesday, March 11 at 2:30 pm. in Birmingham. Wilson with 3 points on perfect 1-1 from field & 1-1 from the FT & a rebound in 71-43 win over Southern Mississippi.

Richardson had a season high 29 points leads Shaw to 78-70 Tournament opening win over Virginia Union. The Bears advance to face Johnson C. Smith Wednesday in Charlotte..  The CIAA Player of the Week led Shaw with 26 in their 78-60 CIAA win over Virginia Union.

Nyheim Hines (’15) tallies 41 yards receiving on two catches for the victorious East squad at the 2015 Semper Fi Bowl High School All-Star Game played at The Stubhub Center in Carson CA &, televised on Fox Sports 1. The NC State commit was named to the 2014 Carolina Gridiron All-State team this week. Hines’ East squad claimed the 24-3 victory in the high school all-star game made up of DI recruits from around the nation.

Tim Stevens (’70) seeks assistance to locate the Paris (Parrish?) farm that was between Swift Creek and the railroad. On April 12, 1865, there was a fight between Union and Confederate forces there. The clash started at Swift Creek. Later in the day, the two cavalries fought at was called Paris farm. Anyone have any clues? This was not the Parrish farm at the corner of 50 and 1010. Scotty McCreery (’12) will open for country stars Rascal Flats on their “Riot Tour” in 2015. McCreery raised $60,000 for The 12.14 Foundation with his benefit concert in Wallingford CT. McCreery extended his “See You Tonight” tour to raise funds for their long-term goal is to build an educational center in Newton.. McCreery showed his appreciation for our military with his Veteran’s Day release of “The Dash” to honor their sacrifice and service to our Country. Powell had 9 kills for #2 seed UNC Wilmington in their 4-set win over Delaware in their Tournament opener. The Seahawks fall to 21-11 for the season, reaching 20 wins for the 2nd consecutive season.

Officers typically carry stuffed animals in patrol cars for traumatized children at the scene of an accident, but toward the end of the summer, the patrol was running low. Great community service, Trojans!

Miss Howell recently performed in “Victor Victoria ” in Houston TX at the Sarofim Hall, & locally in the NC Theater production of “The Little Mermaid” at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. Howell has Broadway credits for her performances in the touring production of “Young Frankenstein“, “CATS” “& “The Producers.”

taylor one manCongratulations to Taylor Williams (’13) for making the Campbell University’s Co-Ed Cheer Team. This is Taylor’s second year on the CU team, where the Camels football team is now 3-0 in conference play. Last year, the CU Cheer Team placed 2nd in Ltd’s Open College Championship. She was a varsity cheerleader all four years at Garner Magnet, under the direct of Helen Cole (’80). She served as Co-Captain her senior year and was a recipient of several cheer awards and the Garner Trojan Club scholarship.

Garner Class of 1969 held their 45th reunion Aug. 9th at the NC State Faculty Club.

 

Meredith BullardMeredith Bullard (’13) has joined theNC State Engineering Ambassadors. The Ambassadors support the College of Engineering & actively participate in increasing student success by enriching their educational experience. Miss Bullard, an IB Diploma graduate, was the President of the GMHS Class of 2013.

Tim Stevens (’70) has been selected the 2014 James R. Stevens Awardee for the Town of Garner for his community service. Stevens, Hall of Fame inductee for the NCHSAA, National Federation of State High School Associations & 2012 Trojan Hall of Fame inductee, has provided our hometown years of service to education, the arts and athletics. Well-deserved Mr. Stevens!

Kudos to Sam Bridges (’81) for an excellent campaign for Wake County Clerk of Court. The former Mayor of Garner (2001-2005) won his primary. A lifelong Trojan fan and volunteer coach, our alum has consistently shown his committment to GMHS and its programs.

Principal Drew Cook (’92) will become Senior Director of High School Programsfor WCPSS. Cook leaves GMHS after four years as principal and 17 years on the staff.
