Important Message from AD East

Dear Parents,

For the longest time Millbrook Athletics has had a proud tradition of excellence on the fields, on the courts, on the courses, on the mat, and in the pool.  A good deal of credit for that excellence should go to the parents of our student-athletes for bring up such fine, hardworking, respectful, and honorable people that our coaches are lucky enough to get to interact with each day.  On behalf of all our coaches, administration, and teachers we would like to thank you for this wonderful opportunity.

As you know spectators have been limited based on decisions from Governor Cooper’s office and decisions made by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).  Those restrictions were further “tightened” by WCPSS, limiting inside numbers to no more than 25 spectators and outside numbers to 100 per event.  All of these above decisions were made in the best interest of our student-athletes.  No one likes these limitations (student-athletes, parents, coaches, administrators – the list goes on), and I assure you that these decisions were thoroughly thought through and not made in haste.

It was decided that for outside events that the limit on spectators would be 100 immediate family members of the home team.  At one time the make up of the outside crowd was going to be 50 from the home team and 50 from the visiting team.  There was a lot of discussion between all the county athletic directors and the county principals about who should be allowed to spectate, and it was eventually changed to 100 immediate family members of the home team only.  I cannot speak for others, but I strongly advocated for these changes because it was in the best interest of our student-athletes and allowed more guaranteed opportunities for our own families to see their son/daughter play.

Here’s what I need you to help me with moving forward so we can enjoy our student-athletes at home contests (especially the seniors!) for the rest of this year:

  1. When given the opportunity to list immediate family members for possible entrance to home contests, please do not add people that live outside the household (relatives, other coaches of your son/daughter not related to Millbrook, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.)
  2. If you will not use your ticket allotment for a game, please make sure the coach knows so these tickets can be distributed to other families that may need them
  3. Learn how to use our touchless ticket system (GoFan), how to be screened in properly before viewing an athletic contest, and how to follow all social distancing guidelines set forth by the state, NCHSAA, and WCPSS
  4. Do not try to get into the away contests at the other schools or loiter in the parking lot of those schools
  5. Do not email all WCPSS principals and athletic directors directly about changing the policy to allow visiting fans (I have received several emails from parents at other schools – please send your thoughts/concerns to me and I’ll send them through the proper channels for communication purposes)

This COVID pandemic is not fair to anyone associated with high school athletics.  My goal is to make it the best it can possibly be for all our student-athletes and fans, and I promise you I’m doing as much as I possibly can to make it happen.  I appreciate your time and support in this matter.

Go Wildcats!
