Millbrook Soccer hit the road on Wednesday night to kick off the 2015-16 Athletic season. The JV boys fell 2-1 to the Mustangs, the Wildcats tallied their only goal in that one on a penalty kick. In the Varsity match that followed, Millbrook fell behind in the opening minutes of the game en route to a 4-0 loss that ended up being called with 15:58 remaining in the game due to the threat of lightning in the area. Coach Edwards thought mental errors from his guys ultimately hurt them. He went on to say, "Middle Creek is a really talented team but we really got ourselves into a tough situation in the first 20 minutes... our so called, self inflicted wounds hurt us". On a positive note, Edwards was pleased with the resiliency of his team.
"We bounced back well after their early goals, we got right back at it and our guys didn't hang their heads. Our guys know that they are a good team, they had some nerves going into this one... we just have to get back and look at the film to see how we can correct ourselves vs. the pressure that Middle Creek brought."
The Wildcats have four days to make those adjustments before they have their home opener. Another SWAC opponent is on the docket as Apex comes to town. The Cougars are already 2-0 with a pair of 4-1 wins over Heritage and Raleigh Charter. They got the best of Millbrook last season in a 2-0 win at Apex. Junior Varsity is scheduled to start at 4:30 with Varsity following immediately after at 6:30.
