JV football wins opener

Five rushing touchdowns in 40-13 win

Powered by a stable of four freshmen and one sophomore, the junior varsity running backs and the arm of freshman quarterback Mateo Studipo defeated the Apex Cougars to win the season opener Aug. 27 in Trentini stadium.

 

Five rushing touchdowns contributed to the 40-13 victory.

 

Freshman #7 Demarcus Jones led the team with 2 TDs. Jones rushed for 90 yards on the night. His fellow freshman teammate, DJ Washington, #3, led the team with 105 rushing yards.

 

Two other freshmen backs, #4 Joseph Mutima and #22 Jaylen Atwater, found the end zone. Mutima had four carries for 25 yards while Atwater totaled 64 yards on 4 carries.

 

Sophomore back #35 Noah Stockton also got in on the action with 5 carries for 25 yards and a TD.

 

Studipo went 2-7 on the night with 46 yards passing. He connected with freshman Jordan Atwater, twin brother to running back Jaylen, on a 31-yard pass for a TD.

 

Freshman tight end Noah Krough also had one reception for 15 yards that set up a late first half TD run.
