The junior varsity football team looks to capture its third straight Cap-8 title this year, being led by coach Glendon Dillard and sophomore captains Connor Loeffler and Ward Sewell.
The team has gone up 4-0 to start the season.
“I think we’re going to win it all,” left guard Sewell said.
The team’s schedule is stacked with many rival schools on the way to the 3-peat.
“We have to continue to improve every day. The hardest part is staying focused. Starting with Rolesville, there is a string of rivalry games almost in a row, and Rolesville is the only non-conference game out of those rivalry games,” Dillard said. “So, we have our work cut out for us. We have a good conference, and we are going to have to really get after it every day in order to put us in position to win another one.”
The team is looking to focus on unity in order to capture the title.
“As a team, we need to come together and try to go 10-0,” safety Loeffler said.
The players have proved they have potential, scoring 148 points in just the first four games, while only allowing 31 to be scored on them.
However, Dillard feels there is much work to do.
“This is a talented group of young men. They are great to work with and they have a ton of potential. This group is very sound defensively and can be explosive on both sides of the ball, but they are all very young,” Dillard said. “If we remain focused every week, this group could be in the mix, but there is work to do in order to bring it to that level.”
