Senior golfer, Kristen Holman has led the way for the Wildcats this fall. Her consistency this season paid off on Tuesday afternoon as she placed 10th in the 4A Eastern Golf Regionals to qualify for the State Championship tournament.
Holman shot a 41 and 42 over the last two weeks as Millbrook picked up back-to-back second place finishes. Her 41 from last week qualified her for Tuesday's 4A Regionals. Out of the 50 girls that qualified to play in the regional at Heritage Golf Course, Kristen tied with Heritage's Kallie Faulkner by shooting an 81. Head Coach, Chris East was impressed by his leading golfer's play in the regional.
"Kristen struggled with control on the front nine, but she hit the ball very well on the back nine to shoot an even par of 36. I am very proud of how she rallied from behind to keep her season alive."
The top 17 finishes in the tournament would qualify for next week's 4A State Championship. Holman's 10th place finish was plenty for her to make the cut, and give her the opportunity to play at Pinehurst No. 6 for a state title. Apex Friendship's Caroline Duggan led all golfers by shooting a 73 on the afternoon.
Kristen Holman wasn't the only Wildcat that qualified for the 4A Regional. Maddie Day's strong play down the stretch also earned her a chance to play in the regional where she would go on to shoot a 98. East is very encouraged by her recent play where she shot a 47, and 48 as he hopes she can use that momentum going into next season.
"I am also very proud of Maddie Day and the way she finished the season. She set a goal of making the Regional Tournament this year and she really played her best golf down the stretch to end up reaching that goal. I am proud of her effort today and I know that she will learn a ton from this experience."
The 4A Women's Golf State Championship will tee off on October 25th in Pinehurst, NC at the legendary Pinehurst Resort and the tournament will be played on Pinehurst No. 6. For more information, follow Millbrook Athletics on Twitter at @Millbrook_SBC.
