WCPSS football teams have concluded week six of regular season play. We saw a number of non-conference match-ups last Friday night. Cap 7 conference play kicked off as well with two WCPSS teams securing an early 1-0 record. Wake Forest and Heritage were the only teams able to uphold their undefeated season records. Friday, September 22
Middle Creek def. Wakefield, 28-20
Middle Creek and Wakefield proved tough competition as only eight points separated the two during last week’s match-up. Middle Creek came out victorious earning their third straight win. The Mustangs advance their overall record to 4-2 as Wakefield will continue to search for a win in two weeks vs. Rolesville.
Heritage def. Holly Springs, 52-7
Heritage secured their fifth consecutive win last Friday night remaining undefeated on the season. The Huskies defense held Holly Springs to just seven points on the night as the Golden Hawks dropped to 2-4 on the season.
Fuquay-Varina def. Knightdale, 17-14
Fuquay-Varina secured a hard fought win over Knightdale last week as just three points separated the teams. The win advances the Bengals to 3-1 on the season, while Knightdale evens out to 3-3.
Garner def. Rolesville, 31-20
Garner took their second win of the season defeating Rolesville last Friday night. The team improved their record to 2-4 on the season as Rolesville dropped another to sit at 1-4.
Green Hope def. Apex Friendship, 28-6
Green Hope made a strong comeback after a tough loss two weeks ago to secure their fourth win of the season. The Falcon defense proved tough to break down allowing only six points to be scored on the night. The team advances to an overall record of 4-2 while Apex Friendship drops to 2-3.
Apex def. Panther Creek, 41-0
Apex football earned their first win of the season last Friday night with a shut-out victory over Panther Creek, 41-0. The Cougars are now 1-4 on the season. Panther Creek will head back to the drawing board as they will have two weeks to prepare for a match-up at Riverside to open up their conference play.
Millbrook def. SRMHS, 33-27
Millbrook and SRMHS went head to head last week with both teams fighting to secure their first Cap 7 conference win. Millbrook rose above the competition defeating SRMHS by just six points. Both teams update their record to 3-3 on the game.
Wake Forest def. Franklinton, 49-10
Wake Forest easily defeayted out-of-conference opponent Franklinton last Friday night. The Cougars remain undefeated at 6-0 on the season. They will have two weeks to prep for their first conference competition vs. Knightdale on October 6.
Athens Drive def. West Johnston, 56-13
Athens Drive earned a well-played victory last week with a win over out-of-conference opponent West Johnston. The Jaguars scored a season best 56 points on the night advancing their record to 4-2 on the season.
Sanderson def. Enloe, 21-7
Sanderson secured their first Cap 7 conference win of the season last Friday taking down Enloe by a score of 21-7. The Spartan defense was the story of the night allowing just seven points into the end zone. The team moves to 4-2 on the season while Enloe evens out to 3-3.
Cardinal Gibbons def. Leesville Road, 47-3
Leesville Road suffered their first conference loss of the season to top team Cardinal Gibbons last Friday night. The Pride were unable to break down the Cardinal Gibbons defense scoring just three points on the night. At 3-3 on the season, Leesville Road will return home to face Sanderson next week in search of another win.
East Wake def. Carrboro, 48-6
East Wake dominated out-of-conference opponent, Carrboro, last Friday night for their first win of the regular season. The warriors scored a season best 48 points on the night advancing them to an overall record of 1-5.
Clayton def. Cary, 46-8
Cary dropped their second straight game last week to out-of-conference opponent, Clayton. The Imps were simply unable to convert on offense scoring just eight points on the night. Their overall record drops to 2-3.
WCPSS men’s soccer teams, on the other hand, are in the heart of their conference play. Results yielded many tough match-ups with teams looking to climb their way to the top.
