WCPSS Athletics Weekly Round Up

WCPSS baseball teams continued their post season play last week with five teams competing in round three on Tuesday, May 15. Four out five teams went on to compete in round four of the NCHSAA state playoffs, but only two will move on to the regional round. For a complete list of scores and results from last week's match-ups, please read below:

Tuesday, May 15

  • Fuquay-Varina def. Middle Creek, 3-2
  • Sanderson def. Jordan, 16-7
  • Garner def. New Bern, 8-6
  • Apex def. Pine Forest, 8-1

Friday, May 18

  • Fuquay-Varina def. Sanderson, 4-0
  • Apex def. Garner, 4-2


WCPSS softball teams also continued their playoff push last week! Heritage was the only program to advance past round three last week with a dominating performance vs. Overhills. The fourth round match-up vs. South Central was postponed until Monday, May 21. For a complete list of scores and results from last week's games, please read below:

Women's Soccer

WCPSS women's soccer teams competed in a number of intense match-ups last week as teams worked hard to play another day this post season! We saw many great performance and results from all of our programs last week, including Fuquay-Varina's overtime win vs. EA Laney which helped advance them into the regional championship scheduled for this week.   • Wakefield def. Hoggard, 2-0
  • Fuquay-Varina def. EA Laney, 1-1 (OT)

  • Leesville Road def. Green Hope, 2-1
  • Fuquay-Varina def. Wakefield, 1-0

Men's Lacrosse

Middle Creek men's lacrosse earned their way to the 2018 4A NCHSAA State Championship on Saturday, May 19 after a two-point victory over Cardinal Gibbons last Tuesday. The Mustangs, unable to break down the Lake Norman defense on Saturday, suffered a two-point loss in their final game. Although unfortunate, we are still very proud of their performance and congratulate all of our men's lacrosse programs on a great season!

Saturday, May 19

  • Lake Norman def. Middle Creek, 13-11

Men's Tennis

Congratulations to the Enloe men's tennis team on their 2018 Dual Team Championship! The Eagles defeated Myers Park 5-1 on Saturday, May 19. For more scoring information and final results from the weekend, click here.

WCPSS men's and women's track and field teams represented the district well this past weekend at the 2018 NCHSAA State Championships! Congratulations to Green Hope men's program and Panther Creek women's program on their 4A state titles!
