JV Soccer falls 2-1 to Enloe

By Millbrook Soccer 09/14/2015, 6:30pm EDT

Offensive pressure was the name of the game on Monday afternoon as the JV Men's Soccer team fell to Enloe 2-1 to kick off their Cap-8 Schedule.

Millbrook had scoring chances early and often vs. the Eagles and a majority of them came from the foot of Sophomore, Luke White. He had a pair of shots sail left of the cage and another that was caught by the Enloe goalie. He got a fourth scoring opportunity in the 18th minute on a pass from John Lopez and he made sure he didn't miss as he ripped it past the keeper give Millbrook the early 1-0 lead. White says it was the play of Lopez that allowed him to find the back of the net.

"We really started well on offense, we got the ball to wide areas and into the box. We won lots of 50/50's early and we started as the controlling team. John really had a beautiful pass. We worked the ball wide to him and he beat a guy on the end line to set me up for an easy shot. John did a lot of the work there to set me up"

The JV Wildcats would play exceptional defense through the opening 25 minutes of the game. Brothers Dylan and Jeremy Hendricks came through with a pair of stops, the second of the two coming from Jeremy who saved a ball off of the line. Sophomore Goalkeeper, John Adamkowski also came through with a pair of saves to maintain the lead. The Eagles would find the back of the net with just over 10 minutes to play. 1-1 would be the score going into half. Coach Cope has loved the play from Adamkowski and the Hendricks.

"Defensively the Hendricks boys are really holding things down for us. We really like what they give us... they have two jobs. The first being to front their nearest striker on a corner kick then back that striker. On the post we need them to stand strong. That's not the first time that one has saved the ball off of the post. John has been a really good commanding voice and we know that he is going to get anything that is high.

Erick Robles and Matthew Bulmer would start the second half with a pair of scoring chances but both would sail wide of the net. In the 52 Minute, Enloe would take the lead, 2-1. Robles would storm back down field and almost knot the score back up. Millbrook would soon get two more scoring opportunities that they too failed to capitalize on. Bulmer drew a penalty kick that White sent high of the net then White drew a kick that Owen Perez would end up being stopped on by the Enloe defense. The clock would run out despite multiple late scoring chances from Millbrook. Speeding up the pace of their offense is something that Coach Cope says the team will have to work on through diagonal runs.

'We need to work on diagonal runs... we need to play the ball back to our mids to get our wings to make diagonal runs going towards the net. We are best when we build good speed going towards the net."

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday night as they battle the Cougars of Wake Forest High School. The match is set to begin at 4:30. For more information, follow Millbrook Soccer on Twitter at @soccer_mhs.

Wildcats pick up first win, 2-1 over East Wake

By Millbrook Soccer 08/26/2015, 9:15pm EDT

Following a rained out match against Apex on Monday night, the Millbrook Men's Soccer team traveled out to Wendell to take on East Wake. Coach Edwards was impressed by the vast improvement from his team as they won their first game of the season, 2-1.

"We pressured up the field, we were able to dictate the flow of play. It's evident that the guys have grown from a week of practice following the Middle Creek loss."

Against an East Wake squad that will be challenging for a top spot in the Greater Neuse River Conference, the Wildcats came out with a ton of energy and created a lot of chances. The Millbrook defense stepped up as they cut down on all but one Warrior opportunity. The Millbrook goalie only had to handle the ball on a pair of occasions, Edwards is proud of the defense for giving his keeper an easy night in net. Senior Forward/Midfielder, Robby Lange, and Junior Forward, Michael Pasca netted the two Wildcat goals that ended up being enough for the victory.

"We aren't a finished product but we have come along really well so far" says Coach Edwards, "We are still growing, and still learning how to play with each other, we are still working on better decision making, but it was definitely a vastly improved Millbrook side tonight".

In JV action, Coach Cope's group came away with the 3-0 win to move to 1-1 as well.

The Varsity Wildcats return to action on Friday afternoon as they play AC Reynolds out of Asheville, NC at 4PM at the Wakemed Soccer Park. Millbrook will take on the Rockets on Field #5. For Junior Varsity, their next match is at 4:30 on September 1st at Clayton, Varsity will follow that game at 6:30 vs. the Comets.
